While the fuel prices are soaring all time high globally, more and more countries are likely to switch over to biofuels. Nations are seeing this as good alternative of traditional fuels to sustain their economic growth and moderately a cheap alternative. But this replacement is going to deprive 30 million people worldwide from food.

A report published by an ad agency, saying rich countries and EU promoting cultivation of biofuels on massive scale is paving the way for food crisis across the world.

The time when inflation hitting hardest to poor and food riots are reported in many countries, the question arises, is it right move to cop up with climate change and high oil prices.

Report said

If the fuel value for a crop exceeds its food value, then it will be used for fuel instead

The use of biofuels is highly debated. Environmentalists say that by using more land to produce crops for biofuels, more habitats will be lost for animals and wild plants. A fear among the ecologists is that it could pave the way for destruction in rainforests in some Asian countries.

Production of crops for biofuels proved more lucrative for farmers, they may switch over for biofuel production instead of food production. It is feared that the impact could be high on developing countries and more people at risk due to the unavailability of food.

First generation bio fuels are not sustainable. There is a dire need to produce sustainable biofuels that does not cause danger to food production. It is expected that the problem can be countered by second generation biofuels, which mostly use the biomass. The use of non sustainable biofuels has been highly criticized by UN and IPCC. There is a need to create a balance between Biofuels and food production, and developed countries should come forward to join hands with developing for this Noble cause.

In a latest attempt to woo Muslim voters and appease minorities, Ram Vilas Paswan, led LJP favored the citizenship of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. The Party passed a resolution in its training camp held in Pushkar recently, that Bangladeshi staying in India till August 31, 2008 should be given the citizenship of India.

We all know Mr. Paswan, earlier an ally of NDA, and now a constituent of UPA, is purely an opportunistic and a hard core cast based politician, is successfully running his politics by appeasing minorities and Dalit classes. But supporting the legalization of Bangladeshi immigrants is the most ridiculous thing in the recent times and it should be condemned unanimously. I think this is the ethical degradation of Indian politics.

Illegal immigration from Bangladesh has become a gravest threat to India’s internal security. There are enough evidences that many Bangladeshi immigrants are associated with militant groups, operating from Bangladeshi Border and in Pakistan. Apart from actively involved in terrorism activities, many Bangladeshi immigrants are indulged in ammunition, fake currency, Drugs trafficking and women trafficking. Giving citizenship to the Bangladeshi immigrants means giving citizenship to terrorists as well.

According to an intelligence official in Guwahati every day around 6,000 illegal infiltrators cross the border and enter the state. As per the latest data 12 lakh Bangladeshi went missing in India. Our own people are being reduced to minority in home states. Local dwellers in Assam and West Bengal have lost their jobs and their cultural heritage.
It pointed out that if effective steps were not taken, it could lead to the possibility of a demand for Brihad (Greater) Bangladesh in the near future.

Honorable Supreme court expressed his concerns many times and asked Union and states governments to prevent Bangladeshi immigrants entering the country.

Government provides basic amenities to citizens, which comes from pocket of tax payers. Pitiably, these facilities and resources are being availed by illegal immigrants. This practice is restraining our growth and depriving us from our rights as citizens of India.

Coming back to the point, with an eye on Muslim votes, Paswan advocated granting of citizenship to illegal Bangladeshi migrants in the country. Paswam is also advocating reservation for Muslim, but if the citizenship would be given to Bangladeshi’s, the reservation will be divided between Indian Muslim and Bangladeshi Muslims, and therefore, it is not good for Muslim community as well. Because anything which bad for India is bad for Muslims.

In my opinion, if any one causing havoc to India and trying to collapse India in any way - is anti-national. This is against the nationalism and anyone who is against the nationalism is considered as a traitor or an anti national. Advocating for anti national elements is also an equal crime. So what should we call Mr. Paswan an honorable minister or an Anti national?

The flood wrecked Bihar is not common; it’s a tragedy which comes in ages and it needs extraordinary efforts to tackle. But the agony is that district administration, state and union government have failed to acknowledge the gravity of the calamity. Still it seems that it has no clear cut policy which can rescue the sufferers.

The worst flood in Bihar’s history has caused gravest threat to Bhagalpur, Begusarai, Katihar, Samastipur and Khagaria districts. Hundred and twenty three people have lost their lives and nearly 20 million affected in flood.

To be very candid, the devastation has raised new questions on government’s policy making, functioning, and disaster management in states like Bihar. Flood in Koshi River, also named ‘sorrow of Bihar’, brought disaster every year to Bihar. The Union government shying away from saying that Breach in Kosi Dam is due the Nepal’s negligence, which didn’t allow the engineers to repair the dam, but the Bihar government said the center has not taken this matter seriously with Nepal.

On the other hand, Nepal showed her ire that’s why it was not repaired in summers. As per the 1954 treaty with Nepal, the safety and the maintenance of embankment is India’s responsibility. The lack of coordination from the Nepalese side and lackadaisical attitude of Indian government has paved the way for this catastrophe.

Regular Floods in Bihar has desperately jolted the economy of Bihar. And it also provides a setback to India’s economy. Despite having a National Disaster management authority neither we have plans now we have adequate resources to avert these calamities. It should be the collective responsibility of Union government, state and the agencies, working in disaster management.

A Mumbai couple challenged the law of abortion in India, claiming that their unborn child is already suffering from some congenital disorder. In an appeal filed in Mumbai court couple argued that it will be difficult for them to live a healthy life, while the upcoming child is inevitably unhealthy.

Rejecting the plea court said the law enacted in 1971under the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act does not allow an abortion beyond 20 weeks of pregnancy.

This subject of abortion is long time debated in India, but this incident infused new debate on the legality of abortion.

A section supporting the abortion firmly believes that it should be the parents’ decision if the unborn child which is anticipated to be unhealthy.

The other arugment is that if people will be allowed for abortion it may lead to misuse of law which could cause already declining sex ratio in the country.

In my point of view if the unborn child’s health is at risk the parents must be allowed to abort. It is for the parents to decide their healthy life. How can they live a healthy life when having a physically challenged child?

There is also an urgent need to amend the law as when it was introduced 37 years back there was no facility to check the foetus health status.

Certainly, no one will believer when I’d say that private banks in India have crossed all limits of cruelty by pressuring borrowers to remove their kidneys in order to pay their loans. But it is a startling reality flourishing in many parts of Bihar.

Run by the local goons, these gunda banks have their own armed squads indulged in all kinds of illegal activities. The saga of their brutality doesn’t come to an end here; they even threaten to abduct the young women.

A victim was quoted as saying:

We were beaten up badly by these goons. They were trying to take my father to get his kidney removed so that they could sell it and get their money back, but he was rescued because some villagers happened to come and see what the commotion was all about.

These banks have their own style of operating; first, they force local dwellers to take loans on high rates and in case someone fails to repay the dept they opt every illegal way on the nose of gun to get their money back. It is more shocking to know that they get the money to operate banks from extortion and kidnappings.

Despite their aggressive advertising campaigns on local FM stations, Bihar police is completely unaware about the existence of such gunda banks. Police has its own arguments to counter their views.

Naugachiya, Deputy Superintendent of Police said:

Lenders and borrowers keep the matter between themselves and the police are never informed. This makes it very difficult for us to investigate the matter.

Apart from gundaraj in Bihar, which is the major root cause of this heartbreaking situation, there are some other causes that why these illegal banks are mushrooming despite the government claims that loans are being provided to farmers on cheaper interests.

The emergence of these banks shows that both private and public sectors’ nationalized banks are reluctant to give loans to poor farmers. The apathy of these banks has paved the way for illegal banks and has impelled farmers to knock the doors of these illegal moneylenders and become the victim of their malice.

Curbing the Gunda Raj is still a distant dream in Bihar but the government can at least encourage banks to set up their offices particularly in rural areas of Bihar so that farmers can mould their way towards nationalized banks.
Since the Indian aviation sector opened its sky for private players in early 90s, the state run carries have consistently slipped their share in aviation market. Foreign airlines and domestic players like Jet, Sahara and Kingfisher are rapidly vanquishing more shares in the market.

In an attempt to compete more effectively with private players and to create a strong global player the civil aviation ministry has decided to merge of two state run carriers, named Air India and Indian airlines. The proposed unification, accepted to finalize by the start of April, would churn out a jumbo squad.

The civil aviation minister Praful Patel sees the merger as a maximization of revenue and yielding annual savings of $113m annually. The minister assured that there would be no short listing of 30,000 employees.

Patel told reporters:

We want to see a big, strong national carrier. This is our intention.

Industry experts said the aging aircrafts of both companies is additional cause of merger as Air is going to buy 68 planes from Boeing and Indian Airlines has placed an order for 43 Airbus planes. After the merger, AI-IA will operate a combined fleet strength of 160-plus aircraft.

The positive outcome is considered as maximization in the revenue and low cost of operation and it would be interesting to see that how far this merger succeeds in achieving its goals.

India and China - the two rapidly increasing economies of the world, have teamed up to boost their tourism in both sides. As envisaged in the Joint Declaration issued during the visit of Mr. Hu Jintao, President of China, India and China have launched ‘India -China Year of Friendship Through Tourism’ in 2007′ to promote tourism between the two countries.
The Tourism & Culture Minister Smt. Ambika Soni, Minister of Foreign Affairs, the People ’s Republic of China Mr. Le Zhoaxing and Minister of External Affairs Shri Pranab Mukherjee attended the inaugural ceremony of the tourism year here today.

Indian Tourism and Culture Smt. Ambika Soni said that friendship between the two countries is extremely pertinent for world peace and stability. It is in this larger context that we see the significance of bilateral cooperation through tourism.

Both countries will emerge as the leading players in Asia in tourism and set new trends. Rich cultural heritage, varied festivals, traditional values and great works of art and music naturally attract our people to each other, she added.

India and China are in a process to start around 50 direct flights in a week in the coming years connecting different cities. Apart from this, India and China will open the heir tourist offices this year.

Industry veterans believe China as an important market for its inbound tourism. According to the official stats, in 2005, India received 46, 805 tourists from China while 6,29,947 Indian tourists traveled to China during the same year.

Buddhism continues to be huge draw. Besides the above, yoga, and Bollywood are other major attractions. India Tourism has already taken initiatives to showcase India’s Buddhist attractions in China by launching advertising campaign termed ‘Walk with Buddha’.

The road transport in the state has severely effected as around 150 buses of State Road Transport Corporation have been stranded at the interiors of Shimla, Kinnaur, Kullu and Chamba districts. Tourists are caught at the various parts of state.

Rescue team has rushed to the chail kufri highway where more than 80 tourists were caught in a resort since Monday.

Tarun Kapoor, Deputy Commissioner of Shimla said:

Tourist stuck in resort Tushali and Shillon beyond Kufri on Kufri Chail road. Administration in touch with the hotel manager but its facing problem due to heavy snow and the road is also blocked. However, administration is sending more rescue mission.

However, this heavy spell of snowfall, after a gap of over a month, has ended the long drought in the state, bringing cheer to apple growers, as well as the tourism industry.
